    Wood Burner Installationin Christchurch

Christchurch is one of Dorset's oldest towns, with a Saxon street plan that still shapes the town centre around the 11th-century priory. The housing ranges from ancient timber-framed buildings near the church to Victorian seafront terraces, 1930s suburbs, and modern developments stretching towards Mudeford and Highcliffe. We're based 20 minutes away in Lymington and install in Christchurch regularly.

Bespoke Wood Burners for Christchurch Homes

Christchurch's town centre has some of the oldest domestic buildings in Dorset, with timber-framed properties around the Priory and Castle ruins dating to the 15th and 16th centuries. These buildings are often listed and sit within the Christchurch Conservation Area, which means flue installations need careful design and sometimes listed building consent. We've navigated this process on several town-centre properties.

The Victorian and Edwardian terraces along the seafront at Mudeford and the streets running inland from the harbour have solid brick chimneys that are generally well-suited to flexible liners. However, much of urban Christchurch falls within the borough's Smoke Control Area, so we supply Defra-exempt stoves as standard for these properties. We'll confirm your zone status during the free survey.

Out towards Highcliffe, Walkford, and the newer developments off the A337, the housing is predominantly 1930s onwards. Many of these properties have narrow or capped chimneys, and the post-1960s builds have no chimney at all. We fit twin-wall flue systems throughout these areas - externally in dark powder-coated finish or internally where the layout allows.

What We Know About Christchurch Homes

Two decades of installing stoves in Christchurch means we understand the local housing stock, building styles, and planning rules better than anyone.

Saxon Town Centre & Listed Buildings

The properties around the Priory, Church Street, and Castle Street include some of Christchurch's oldest domestic buildings - several are Grade II listed with timber frames and wattle and daub panels. Installing a flue on these buildings requires listed building consent, and the conservation area status means external flue terminals need careful positioning. We handle the consent application and design internal flue routes that don't compromise the historic fabric, using lime-based materials for any opening or hearth work.

    Christchurch Smoke Control Zone

Much of urban Christchurch falls within the borough's Smoke Control Area, covering the town centre, Mudeford, and parts of Purewell and Jumpers. If your property is within this zone, you must use a Defra-exempt stove and burn authorised fuel. We carry a full range of Defra-exempt models from Charnwood, Stovax, and ACR, and we'll confirm your zone status during the free survey so you know exactly what's required before you choose a stove.

    Harbour-Side Exposure at Mudeford

Properties along the Mudeford seafront and around Christchurch Harbour face wind exposure from the Solent and the harbour mouth. While not as severe as the open-coast exposure at Milford on Sea, these positions can still cause downdraught in standard flues on windy days. We specify anti-downdraught cowls for exposed harbour-side properties and use 316-grade stainless for any external flue components to resist the salt air that drifts across from the Spit.

    Highcliffe & Walkford Suburbs

The 1930s and post-war housing in Highcliffe and Walkford, east of the town centre, has a mix of usable chimneys and capped stacks. The 1930s semis typically have brick chimneys that take flexible liners well, while the 1960s and 70s houses often have no chimney. We fit twin-wall flue systems for the chimneyless properties, and we can also reline and reinstate chimneys that have been capped - sometimes a capped stack can be opened up and lined rather than requiring a full twin-wall system.
