Wood Burner InstallationAcross Hampshire

From the chalk-stream valleys of the Test to the dense woodlands of the South Downs National Park, Ablaze Fireplaces has spent two decades fitting stoves in Hampshire homes. We understand the county's rich mix of period stock and modern development - and we bring the right flue, hearth, and stove solution to each one.

Bespoke Wood Burners for Hampshire Homes

Hampshire's housing stock is one of the most varied in southern England. In Winchester you'll find medieval timber-framed buildings with listed-status restrictions on flue routes. In Basingstoke and Andover, 1970s estates with prefabricated chimneys that often need flexible liners rather than twin-wall systems. Along the Solent coast in Hythe and Fareham, salt-laden air means we specify marine-grade stainless flues and tighter weather caps to prevent corrosion.

We've installed stoves in Victorian terraces across Southampton, barn conversions in the Meon Valley, and new-build estates in Eastleigh and Hedge End. Each presents different challenges: a Southampton terrace may need a rear-wall twin-wall flue because the shared chimney stack is unsound, while a Meon Valley barn gives us the height to run a dramatic exposed flue that becomes a design feature in its own right.

Our HETAS registration covers every type of installation - solid fuel, multi-fuel, and wood-burning - across the whole county. We supply the stove, build the hearth, fit the flue, and issue the compliance certificate. One team, one point of contact, no subcontractors.

Listed Buildings in Winchester & Romsey

Winchester has over 2,000 listed buildings, many with original inglenook fireplaces that have been bricked up or capped. We're experienced in opening these back up, lining them with flexible flue liners, and fitting stoves that respect the period character. We work with conservation officers and can advise on what's permissible under listed building consent - including acceptable flue terminal positions and hearth materials.

South Downs National Park Restrictions

Properties within the South Downs National Park - including Petersfield, Alton, and parts of East Hampshire - fall under stricter planning controls. Chimney and flue installations may require prior notification. We handle the paperwork and ensure flue heights and terminal positions meet both building regulations and National Park Authority guidelines, so your installation is fully compliant from day one.

Coastal Corrosion Along the Solent

Homes in Fareham, Gosport, Hythe, and the Hamble estuary face salt air that accelerates flue and cowl degradation. We use 316-grade stainless steel liners as a minimum on coastal jobs, with 904-grade available for maximum longevity. We also fit anti-downdraught cowls designed for exposed coastal positions, preventing the smoke blowback that plagues waterfront properties on windy days.

Smoke Control Zones in Southampton & Portsmouth

Much of urban Southampton falls within a Smoke Control Zone. That doesn't mean you can't have a wood burner - but the stove must be Defra-exempt (also called Defra Smoke Exempt) and you must burn authorised fuel. We stock a wide range of Defra-exempt stoves and can advise on which models keep you fully compliant while delivering the heat output you need.
