    Wood Burner Installationin New Milton

New Milton is a railway town that grew up around the station in the late 19th century, and its housing stock reflects that timeline - Victorian and Edwardian villas near the centre, 1930s and 50s semis spreading outward, and a ring of 1960s and 70s bungalows and houses towards Barton on Sea and Ashley. We're based ten minutes away in Lymington and install in New Milton every week.

Bespoke Wood Burners for New Milton Homes

New Milton's housing is predominantly mid-20th century, which means many properties have narrow chimneys or no chimney at all. The 1930s and 1950s semis-detached houses around Station Road and the town centre typically have brick chimneys that can take flexible liners, but the flues are narrower than Victorian stock and often need lining regardless of condition. We camera-survey each chimney to confirm.

The bungalows and houses in the 1960s and 70s developments towards Barton on Sea, Ashley, and Bashley mostly have no usable chimney. These are ideal candidates for twin-wall flue systems, which we can run externally up an outside wall in a dark powder-coated finish or internally through a bedroom cupboard. The installation is clean, fast, and the stove draws as well as it would in a property with a traditional chimney.

New Milton's position just inland from the coast means properties towards Barton on Sea get some salt exposure, though less severe than the seafront itself. We use 316-grade stainless for any external flue components in these areas to prevent the corrosion that standard 304-grade suffers in coastal air. For properties further inland towards the town centre, standard grades are usually sufficient.

    Local Knowledge

What We Know About New Milton Homes

Two decades of installing stoves in New Milton means we understand the local housing stock, building styles, and planning rules better than anyone.

    1960s Bungalows & Chimneyless Estates

Much of New Milton's housing stock - particularly the bungalow estates off Barton Court Road, Gore Road, and towards Bashley - was built in the 1960s and 70s with no usable chimney. These properties are straightforward candidates for twin-wall flue systems. We run the flue externally in a dark powder-coated finish that blends with the brickwork, or internally through a corner or cupboard. The installation takes a day and gives you a stove that draws perfectly.

1930s Semis Near the Town Centre

The 1930s and 1950s semis-detached houses around Station Road, Manor Road, and the town centre have brick chimneys that are generally sound but narrower than Victorian flues. A flexible liner matched to the stove's flue diameter is usually needed to ensure good draw and prevent tar buildup. These installations are straightforward - a day to line the chimney, fit a slate or stone hearth, and install the stove.

Coastal Exposure Towards Barton on Sea

Properties on the Barton on Sea edge of New Milton get moderate salt exposure from the Solent, though less severe than the seafront at Milford on Sea. For any external flue components on these properties, we use 316-grade stainless steel to resist corrosion. Properties further inland towards the town centre and towards the A31 don't need the marine-grade treatment, and standard 304-grade components are sufficient.

Victorian Villas Near the Railway Station

The oldest properties in New Milton are the Victorian and Edwardian villas built when the railway arrived in the 1880s - many along Station Road and Old Milton Road. These have substantial brick chimneys that are well-suited to flexible liners, though we always camera-survey the flue first to check for internal pitting or damage from decades of use. These chimneys often draw well once lined, giving excellent stove performance.
