    HETAS-Certified Flues& Chimney Systems

A stove is only as good as the flue that serves it. We specialise in chimney physics - ensuring your installation has the perfect 'up-draught' for a safe, efficient, and smoke-free home in Lymington and the New Forest.

The Science of a Safe Burn

The flue is responsible for the critical task of removing toxic gases (including Carbon Monoxide) from your home. In Lymington's period properties, old brick chimneys are often porous or have failed mid-feathers (the bricks between flues). We install high-grade flexible stainless steel liners that create a continuous, sealed conduit from your stove to the chimney pot. This not only makes the installation safe but also keeps the flue gases warm, which is essential for maintaining the 'pull' or draught required for the stove to operate correctly.

For modern homes or extensions without a chimney breast, we design and install twin-wall insulated chimney systems. These are essentially 'chimneys in a box' - stainless steel pipes with high-density insulation between the walls. We can route these through the roof or out through a wall (external flue). We use premium powder-coated systems in black or grey to ensure the external flue complements your home's exterior aesthetic.

Every installation includes a smoke pressure test and a draught test to verify performance before we issue your HETAS compliance certificate.

    Questions Customers Ask

    Straight Answers About This Service

Can I have a wood burner if my property has no chimney at all?

Absolutely. A twin-wall insulated flue system acts as a complete chimney and can be routed through the house or up an external wall. This is a popular solution for newer Lymington and New Forest homes and extensions that were built without a masonry stack.

Does my existing chimney need lining before a stove goes in?

In almost every case, yes. Old brick chimneys are wider than modern stove flues, which means gases cool too quickly, draw is poor, and creosote builds up. A flexible stainless steel liner in the correct diameter solves all three problems and is required for HETAS compliance.

Will a wood burner affect my home insurance?

Most insurers ask for a HETAS certificate for any solid-fuel installation. Because we are HETAS-registered, we issue that certificate on completion and you can pass it straight to your insurer. We recommend checking with them before the install date.

How often should the flue be swept after installation?

At least once a year, ideally before the heating season. Regular sweeping keeps the flue performing efficiently, prevents tar buildup, and maintains your stove warranty. We can recommend trusted local chimney sweeps for ongoing maintenance.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Common Questions

Technically, a sound masonry chimney might work, but modern stoves are designed to run on specific flue diameters (usually 5 or 6 inches). Old chimneys are much wider, which causes flue gases to cool down too quickly, leading to poor draw and dangerous creosote buildup. A liner is almost always required for a HETAS-compliant installation.

Yes! A twin-wall flue system is the solution. It can be installed in almost any house. We can run it through the house (boxing it in) or up an outside wall. This is a very common solution for newer homes in Lymington and the New Forest.

316 is the standard grade, suitable for burning dry wood. 904 is a higher-grade, thicker steel designed to withstand the more corrosive gases produced by burning smokeless coal. We recommend 904 if you plan to use your stove as a primary heat source with multi-fuel.

This is usually a draught issue. It could be a blockage, a flue that is too short, or 'cold plug' (heavy cold air sitting in the flue). We use manometer testing to measure the exact 'pull' of your flue and can fit anti-downdraught cowls to resolve these issues.

A standard chimney reline and stove fit usually takes 1 day. A twin-wall system through the house might take 2 days depending on the complexity of the roof penetrations.
